About Alice
The Alice Coleman Brown story is one of faith, family, friends, and a life-long
commitment to education. She graduated from Southern University in Elementary
Education and attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she received
her certification in Special Education.  Alice taught at several elementary schools in
Lafayette and was one of the first teachers and coordinators of the Head Start
Program in Lafayette and St. Martin Parishes.  After her retirement she served as a
volunteer tutor and Religion teacher.  This scholarship was formed to commemorate
the life of Alice, her enthusiasm for education, and to perpetuate her legacy of
excellence and generosity, posthumously.

he Alice Coleman Brown Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to the memory
of Alice Coleman Brown, a Southern University graduate,
retired teacher and champion of education for over 30 years.
To honor Alice and her life's work,
a one-time award of $1,500 is offered to an outstanding
